Fans of big-wheelers are getting excited amid revelations from Giant mountain bikes that at long last they will be unveiling a new high-end big-wheeler at the Sea Otter Classis next month to go with their existing entry-level and mid-range models. The big-wheelers, also known as 29ers, are mountain bikes which use 700c rims (which is the same size as most road bikes) in order to get a 29inch wheel as opposed to the ordinary 26inch that would be expected. The bigger wheels are popular because they give better traction but the compromise comes from the fact that they are heavier so slower to accelerate.
Giant mountain bikes are refusing to say too much about the new bikes at the moment, so speculation is rife. It is understood the target market will be performance trailers and hardcore bikers who ride any mountain, all day. Other commentators are speculating that the new bike is likely to be an aluminium 29inch version of the existing Giant Anthem X or Trance X full suspension models.
Fans of big-wheelers are excitedly chattering about the possibility of the new model including such features as a tapered OverDrive front end and Giant mountain bikes' Maestro linkage system. Regardless of how the new big-wheeler turns out, it will certainly be born into a huge storm of publicity. Bikers are really talking about it and anticipating its debut already. Luckily for them, there isn't all that much longer to wait now until all will be finally revealed next month.
