The Kona mountain bikes mash-up event will go ahead for the fourth time this year, with three events planned for June, July and December at two courses, one in Wales and one in the Scottish borders. The event is hugely popular amongst Britain's biking community, with over 400 competitors taking part in last year's event.
For those who aren't yet familiar with the event, the Kona mountain bikes mash-up was created from the organisers' desire to create a biking event which would bring together every type of rider in the country. They pointed out there were already marathon events for endurance riders, technical downhill trails for adrenaline junkies and many other specialised events, but not one single event which brought everyone together.
That's where the Kona mountain bikes mash-up comes in. Called the mash-up because it is a mixture of every type of biking, it takes advantage of the fact that most UK courses are designed to offer a bit of everything over several sections, including long climbs, forest roads, single tracks and very technical downhill sections. The idea behind holding the Kona mountain bikes mash-up on such a track is that the event will attract a really broad range of attendees.
The Kona mountain bikes mash-up is held at two of the best trails in the UK: Glyncorrwg, in Wales, which many believe to be the best trail centre in the UK and boasts a trail for every level and distance and Glentress which is renowned for some of the best mountain biking in the country.
In all, the event has really broken the mould for UK events catering to just one sort of biker. It allows all enthusiasts to come together and share ideas, hints, tips and knowledge as well as broadening their interests. There's also a great social atmosphere, so it's definitely worth getting to.
